Second-year Public Service students from Hertford Regional College provided stewarding assistance at the annual Crucial Crew fortnight at Herts Young Mariners Base earlier this month.
Working with a variety of different agencies including, the police, fire service, local council and railways, students played a vital role in ensuring the success of the event, organised by the Broxbourne Community Safety Partnership.
The Crucial Crew initiative involved over 1000, year-six school children from across the Borough of Broxbourne, providing interactive sessions that were designed to help them think about situations they may face later in life.
Officers from Broxbourne Council, Herts Constabulary, Broxbourne Housing Association, Herts Fire & Rescue Service, St John’s Ambulance and Wood Green Animal Shelter gave presentations during the event, which ran from 1st-11th November.
At the end of the sessions, students were given packs containing booklets and other materials for them to work through when they return to the classroom, to reinforce what they have learnt.
