This practical work-related qualification will introduce you to the skills and knowledge essential for a career in business and related industries. It will give you the opportunity to develop and gain knowledge in key foundation skills in business. Commitment on this course leads to attainable progression to a Level 2 qualification.

What can I do next?

If you achieve a Pass and Functional Skills, and achieve the appropriate level of attendance, you will be able to progress on to a Level 2 programme. Most learners move on to the First Certificate in Business BTEC Level 2. You could also choose to go into employment or an apprenticeship.

What will I be doing?

Units for this course include: 

  • Presenting a Business idea
  • Finding out about Business in your area
  • Contribute to running an event
  • Creating a visual display
  • Recording income and expenditure

Added Extras

  • Functional skills or GCSE in English and maths
  • Group and personal tutorials
  • Work experience

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is continuous throughout the course.  Methods of assessment vary from unit to unit and include practical and theory assessments - both written and practical observations.  The qualification has a number of core and optional modules, which all learners will study.

Entry requirements

You will need Functional skills in English and maths at Level 1 or Entry Level 3 and have a keen interest in business.

You will be required to come to college with an attitude that reflects your aspiration to develop and maintain a professional approach to your studies and improve your employability skills.

What do I need to bring?

You will need to provide stationery including a memory stick, folder, paper and pens. A text book will also be required. Your tutor will give you further details.

Fee Information

Free to Home students under 19 on 31 August 2023.

If you are a Home student aged 19 or over on 31 August 2023, you may be liable to pay approximately £2,500 tuition fee for a Level 2 qualification and approximately £5,000 for a Level 3 qualification (these were the tuition fees for 2022/2023 and could be subject to change for 2023/2024).

If you are aged 19-23 you may also be entitled to free tuition if the course you choose is on a government-approved list and the qualification is your first full Level 2 or Level 3 qualification.

If you are aged over 24 and you have not achieved a full Level 3 qualification you may be entitled to free tuition if the qualification is listed on the Government Free courses for jobs list. Similarly, if you already hold a Level 3 qualification (or above) and meet the Adult Education Budgets definition of unemployed or are in receipt of low wage, you may also be entitled to free tuition.

You may also be required to pay an administration fee, exam fees, kit fee and an Awarding Body Registration fee if applicable.
