Art & Design

The drawing and painting workshops are for students of varying abilities and experience. Topics covered include an introduction to line, tone, form and perspective as well as colour and composition. You will be advised at your first lesson about any materials that you will need to bring to class.

How to book

To book on any of our Art & Design short courses, please complete an online booking form and make payment for the relevant course via our online shop.  Please note your place on the course cannot be confirmed until we have received payment in full and a completed booking form.

What can I do next?

You can progress on to our Watercolour Workshop.

What will I be doing?

Over the course of any of the 10 week blocks, you may be using pencil to draw a portrait, developing basic skills in using line, tone and proportion. You may be using layers of watercolour washes to capture a still life from observation. You may be improving your use of colour to create depth in a landscape painting. Projects might be 1-3 weeks in length.

Entry requirements

There are no entry requirements. All levels, including beginners, are welcome.

What do I need to bring?

You will be advised of any materials at the start of each 10 week block. Please bring with you any materials you may already have. Do not purchase any expensive materials before discussion with the tutor.

Fee Information

£130 for each of the 10 week blocks.

These fees are indicative of the 2024-25 costs and may be subject to change

These classes are scheduled on a Wednesday and Thursday morning, 10:00 - 12:00, at
The Huntingdon Suite, Bishops' College, Churchgate, Cheshunt, EN8 9XQ.

All our Art & Design Short Courses are for aged 18+ unless otherwise specified.

The Department will contact you with start-up instructions approximately 1 week before the start of the course.

All our Art & Design short courses run subject to reaching minimum numbers. In the event we are unable to run the course you are booked on to, you will be offered a space on an alternative course or a full refund of the course fee.

We endeavour to remove our courses from the website once courses are full, in the unlikely event you are able to submit a booking and pay for a course that is full, you will be offered a space on an alternative course or a full refund of the course fee.
