This beginner's course is designed to introduce you to the art of cake decoration and sugar craft, folowing trends and styles.  During this ten week course, your tutor will guide you through every stage of your learning through demonstrations, information sheets, discussion and 1-1 guidance.  Within the planned, two-hour sessions, you will be taught a range of skills to enable you to produce cakes and sugar decorations with confidence.  You will need to bring your own ingredients and equipment to the class and a list will be provided on enrolment.

What can I do next?

Students can progress onto the Cake Decorating and Sugarcraft Improvers course in January.  This course is for people with some experience of cake decoration, who want to develop their skills further and improve on their previous learning.  The Improvers course includes wired flowers, novelty cakes, piped buttercream flowers, modelling, and ganache.

What will I be doing?

You will be working with a wide range of mediums including buttercream, fondant iciing, royal icing, modelling paste, petail paste, marzipan, sponge cakes and fruit cakes. You will also learn how to create sugar models, sugar flowers, decorate cupcakes, piping and covering cakes with both buttercream and fondant icing, leading up to the festive season and decorating a Christmas cake. A full list of the planned lessons is available on request.
