Construction has long been seen as 'old-fashioned' and consisting of men working on a building, but there is much more to it than that!
With over three million people working in the construction industry, there's plenty of choice for a role in construction. From IT technicians to marketing executives, accountants to quantity surveyors, plant hire managers to architects, landscape designers to BIM technicians, there's plenty of choice in terms of careers and areas of construction to go into. In the next five years, we expect 232,000 jobs to be created within the industry.
Myth busting
* Construction is a dirty industry that is bad for the environment...Many construction careers are focused on green technologies and sustainability, making sure the environment is protected during the construction process.
* Construction if just 'jobs for the boys'...Over 320,000 women work in construction in the UK.
* I did well at school so Construction is not for me...there are many well-paid career opportunities for successful people who are educated to degree level in the construction industry. Once you have your degree, many employers have a recognised development graduate programme
* Construction is an old fashioned and very traditional industry...Modern construction develops and uses some of the latest technology including Building Information Modelling (BIM), Computer Aided Design (CAD) and even nanotechnology.

At HRC Work Experience is vital to build Construction Skills as well your CV to beat the competition. Previous Work Experience and continuing projects / placements have been:

How will I be assessed?
Entry level 1 is a mixture of practical assessments and theoretical workbook, marked internally by assessors and externally by the awarding body.
Entry requirements
- Keen interest in the Construction industry
- Level 1 or below in Maths and English
- Grading Profile of GCSEs at grade G or below, although no formal qualifications are required
- Satisfactory character reference
What do I need to bring?
We ask our students to pay £100 kit and trip fee that is broken down into different divisions dependent on course and need, on Entry Level 3 you will get:
3 HRC Construction branded Navy Blue T-Shirts
1 pair of black combat trousers
1 HRC Construction branded Yellow Hi Vis
2 trips
You will be required to purchase your own steel toecap boots, receiving a voucher for 10% off at Direct Boot.
Fee Information
Free to those under 19 on 31st August 2017. If you are 19 or over on 31st August 2017, have been a permanent resident in the EU for the last 3 years and are a fee paying new entrant, you will pay approx. £1500 tuition fee for a Level 2 qualification and approx. £3000 for a Level 3 qualification (these were the fees for 2016/17 and could be subject to change for 2017/18). Fee paying students continuing on the same course for a second year will be charged £1500 tuition fee for a Level 2 qualification and approx. £3000 for a Level 3 qualification (these were the fees for 2016/17 and could be subject to change for 2017/18). If you are aged 19-23 you may also be entitled to free training if the course you choose is your first full Level 2 or Level 3 qualification.
You may also be required to pay an administration fee, exam fees, kit fee and an Awarding Body Registration fee if applicable. For these costs please contact our Information Centre.
