A GCSE Maths qualification is fundamental for employment and education prospects and has become an essential requirement by most employers seeking to recruit new staff.

Students on this course will learn about the five key areas of the GCSE Maths programme, which includes numbers, algebra, ratios and proportion, geometry and measure and statistics and probability.

The course is assessed by three final exams which are externally assessed by the awarding body.

What will I be doing?

You will attend for 3 hours per week and will cover the following topics to preapre for your exam: 

  • Number
  • Algebra
  • Ratio and Proportion
  • Geometry and Measures
  • Statistics and Probability

How will I be assessed?

Your qualification grade is decided by three final exams which are externally assessed by the awarding body, which is OCR:

  • Paper 1 - calculator test - middle of May
  • Paper 2 - non-calculator test - first week of June
  • Paper 3 - calculator test - second week of June

You will also be taking a series of mock tests and exams throughout the year to help you track your progress and identify areas for development.

Entry requirements

On application you will be invited to take a maths assessment at the HRC Learning Centre. This will allow our Tutors to assess your current level and will indicate if you are suitable for the course or if an alternative maths programme may initially be required. What do I need to bring?

  • Basic stationery such as a pen, pencil.
  • A calculator.
  • A geometry set.

A relevant workbook is provided to all students taking the GCSE Maths exam.

Fee Information

Free unless you already have a Grade 4 or a Grade C on the old specification. However, there is a £10 fee to cover the cost of exercise and text books.

These fees are indicative of the 2024-25 costs and may be subject to change
