Teacher Training

This is a one-year, part-time course which offers an award qualification for internal quality assurers (IQA). This course focuses on the assuring of teaching and training in a variety of settings, including colleges and independent training organisations, whereby educational/training practitioners involved with the internal quality assurance of learners assessments, as part of their professional role, are expected to have achieved Level 4 Internal Quality Assurer status.

There are two pathways to choose from that are based on understanding the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practices (6 credits):

  • A knowledge-only Award for those who are starting their journey as an internal quality assurance practitioner but who are not carrying out quality assurance themselves. This might be people such as experienced assessors or Centre Managers, HR or Quality Assurance Personnel.
  • For practitioners who conduct internal quality assurance of the assessment process from within a centre or organisation, by sample planning, monitoring and advising on the practice of assessors.

This course is offered based on either one or a combination of the above units depending on the your requirements and is validated by the City and Guilds Awarding Body and is a nationally recognised qualification.

What can I do next?

Achieving the L4 Internal Quality Assurance Award qualification, successful candidates are fully qualified to quality assure learner assessments within their own vocational area and subject specialism, either within the organisation in which they work or as an independent quality assurer in industry or within the apprenticeship scheme

After you have successfully completed this course and achieved the L4 Quality Assurer Award qualification, you can also choose to progress onto the L5 External Quality Assurer Award.

What will I be doing?

You will undertake flexible 1:1 training sessions with the IQA Assessor-Trainer to develop your knowledge and skills in relation to the quality assurance of the assessment process in the education and training sector.

This course will be delivered through online and blended learning.

Units of study include:

  • Unit 401 - Understanding the Principles and Practices of Internally Assuring the Quality of Assessment (6 credits)
  • Unit 402 - Internally Assure the Quality of Assessment (6 credits)

Added Extras

This part-time course provides you with flexible training hours to suit your own work and personal commitments. You are able to work in the sector whilst completing your qualification.

Entry requirements

All candidates must complete a pre-assessment with the IQA Assessor-Trainer to confirm their ability to acquire the relevant evidence to achieve the L4 Award.

All applicants must have achieved the L3 Assessor Award and provide certificates as evidence.

All applicants to attend an interview with the IQA Assessor-Trainer through TEAMS and complete the pre-assessment form.

The course fee is £750.00
