What will I be doing?
We will help you learn a wide range of skills that will support you to work in the teaching industry, including how to:
- Undertake group learning activities to develop your knowledge and understanding of teaching in the education and training sector
- Complete assignments linked to the programme's themes
- Plan and deliver teaching and learning (50 hours minimum)
- Complete wider reading and research
- Teach competently within your subject specialist area
- Reflect critically on a range of professional issues and practices
- Take responsibility for identifying your own continuing professional development
- Professional Development Portfolio Part 1 (Level 5) 15 credits
- Theories of Learning and Inclusion (Level 5) 15 credits
- Policy and Curriculum Issues (Level 5) 30 credits or (Level 6) 30 credits
- Professional Development Portfolio Part 2 (Level 5) 30 credits
- Research and Scholarship for the Development of Subject Specialist Expertise (Level 6) 30 credits
This course will be delivered through a variety of methods that could include face to face teaching, blended learning, seminars, tutorials, etc.

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed by completing assignments which are submitted at the end of each semester (there are two semesters per year). You will also complete a practical teaching folder which shows evidence of your ongoing practice, including teaching observations and a professional development record.

Theory of learning Essay
With reference to wider reading (WRWR), summarise the main features, ideas and Principles of a theory of learning from one theorist of learning. Evaluate the practical implications and limitations of this theory for your subject specialism in terms of: Planning, classroom management, teaching strategies, resources and assessment methods. (1700 words).
- Four assessments of your practical teaching,carried out by suitably qualified persons (PGCE/ Cert Ed or equivalent) within the last two years. These must be in the form of written reports by the assessor which indicate the nature and quality of your teaching/training. These reports must indicate competence in the classroom.
- Full written evaluations of these assessed lessons/sessions identifying strengths, areas for improvement and action points for future sessions. As well as self-evaluation you should draw on and refer to assessor feedback and your response to it. (Each evaluation should be approximately 250 words)
- Evidence of the completion of at least 50 hours of teaching/training with groups of 8 or more learners over the last year. This should be a signed or headed/stamped letter from your employer(s).
- Copies of certificates of any existing qualifications in Literacy/Language, Mathematics/Numeracy and ICT.
- A statement of your professional/personal development to date in terms of your teaching/training, tutoring and other roles (approx. 300-500 words).
- An action plan for your continuing professional development, including the identification of learning/development needs in relation to your teaching/training; further development in your subject specialist knowledge, in your own language/literacy, mathematics/numeracy and ICT skills and in the embedding of these within the teaching of your subject (approx. 300-500 words).

Along with the below qualifications required for the PCE
- Level 3 or above qualification in a relevant subject, including applicants with a 3rd class honours degree
- 100 hours teaching practice (50 in each year of study) - confirmation of teaching practice is required prior to enrolment
- GCSE English at C or above or equivalent.
- GCSE Maths at C or above or equivalent (or evidence of working at or towards that level)
- Basic IT competency as assignments need to be typed
Candidates must also:
- Attend an interview that will be through TEAMS
- Complete initial/ diagnostic literacy task on BKSB, for those teaching English or Maths evidence of working at Level 3
What do I need to bring?
There are some items you will need to purchase in advance of the course which you should expect to replace as and when you need to during the year.This will include, but may not be limited to, standard note-taking equipment.
