What is an apprenticeship?
For your son or daughter to get their career started they will need a combination of experience and qualifications. An apprenticeship can give them both, by combining on the job training with study (usually once a week) meaning they can earn while they learn. With some apprenticeships they could even gain a degree.

What is the benefit for them to do an apprentice?
Apprenticeships introduce young people to the world of work a lot earlier than traditional study routes. Their employers have the same expectations of apprentices as their other employees and so your son or daughter will have a great understanding of their responsibilities from day one.

With an apprenticeship, your child can:

  • Earn a salary
  • Gain the skills employers want
  • Access excellent progression opportunities
  • Increase their future earning potential
  • Benefit from support from their employer, tutor and assessor
  • Enjoy paid holiday

How much will they earn?
The minimum wage for apprentices is £3.50 per hour (as of August 2017), but many employers pay more than this. This is dependent on the sector, region and apprenticeship level. For example, some higher apprenticeships can pay as much as £300 – £500 per week.

What apprenticeships are available?
We currently offer a wide range of apprenticeships. You can see our full selection, including the levels we offer for each, here.

What can they do next?
We offer different levels for our apprenticeships meaning your child can progress up the ladder. They could start on an intermediate level and finish up by completing a higher apprenticeship which will earn them a degree. Once finishing their apprenticeship they can choose to stay in employment or study for a degree at university.

What entry requirements are there to become an apprentice?
Entry requirements vary depending on the apprenticeship you choose, however everyone undertaking an apprenticeship must be aged 16 or over.
