Since 2014, those wishing to enter the industry have needed at least C grades in GCSE English and maths while functional skills qualifications were not accepted.
This has since been overturned with functional skills now being recognised as an equivalent qualification. It is hoped the change will encourage those with a range of qualifications to now enter the industry.
