T-Levels
Hertford Regional College is pleased to be able to offer T-Levels, the new qualification launched by the Government in 2020, from the 2023/24 academic year!
What Are T-Levels?
T-Levels are an alternative to A levels and Level 3 courses and apprenticeships.
T-Levels are courses that have been developed in partnership with employers and businesses in order to better prepare students for careers in the industry by focusing their learning to areas that are most relevant to the profession.
The courses offer a mix of classroom learning and on-the-job experience and offer the equivalent of 3 A-Levels on completion of the course.
How T-Levels Work
T-Level courses include the following compulsory elements:
A technical qualification, which includes:
- Core theory, concepts and skills for an industry area
- Specialist skills and knowledge for an occupation or career
- An industry placement with an employer
Students will also be required to work towards the attainment of Maths and English if they have not already achieved grade 4 at GCSE, as they do on other 16 to 19 programmes.
Your T Level course will be worth UCAS points – a T Level Distinction* is worth the same as 3 A Levels at A* – and will be recognised by universities and other education providers so you can choose to continue studying if you wish.
What Does My Industry Placement Look Like?
Every T-Level includes an industry placement with an employer focused on developing the practical and technical skills required for the occupation. These will last a minimum of 315 hours (approximately 45 days) but can last longer. Employers can offer industry placements as a block, day release or a mix of these, and can discuss sharing part of the placement with another employer if necessary.
We are here to support employers offering industry placements. This will include assistance with the necessary paperwork, a careful planning process and support with designing the industry placement.
