Creating a Splash (of colour) with B3Living Work Experience

Work Experience – March 2016

Alex, a Level 2 Painting & Decorating student has been at Hertford Regional College for 2 years and recently went out on work experience with B3Living to practice the skills he’s learnt at college.

We caught up with Alex and his B3Living supervisor, Brenda Renshaw, in Cheshunt where they were decorating the kitchen of a local resident’s flat.

Alex, who has a cochlear implant and is supported by a sign language interpreter at college, did not let the fact that he is deaf get in his way whilst at work.

The pair painted and decorated a kitchen which was being given a full refit. They had to work quickly to get the decorating done before the floor fitters were due in.

Alex really enjoyed the opportunity; saying that he didn’t find anything hard, but put that all down to practice.

Brenda was full of praise for Alex and said he had done very well. She adapted the way she worked slightly to ensure she faced him when she spoke to him but that it was not any trouble.

As testament to the fact that Brenda had indeed appreciated the extra help, she asked the HRC team when the next student on work experience could join her!
