On Thursday 28th April, Hertford Regional College had the honour of hosting the Guild of Bricklayers London Regional Heat Competition.
Each year the Guild, through its network organise regional competitions which are sponsored by brick, mortar, and tool manufactures attracting some 300 competitiors a year. The regional competitions form part of the National Building Craft Competition scene, which lead to a National Final Competition. Guild members serve on advisory panels of all the technical institutes, and supervise competition stands at local and national exhibitions. Assistance is also given to the Worshipful Company of Tylers and Bricklayers in their triennial awards.
We are delighted that two HRC students won both categories and are through to the Nationals!
Junior Competitor Winner: Owen Roberts
Senior Competitor Winner: Jay Grainger
A massive congratulations to both students who worked incredibly hard to win the awards. A huge achievement and a credit to HRC!
A huge thank you to all of the sponsors and businesses who contributed to the event. And a massive thank you to Jack Dawson and the Construction team who enabled the event to go ahead and run smoothly, well done all.
Bring on the National finals in June!
On Tuesday 22nd March, 3 of our talented student chefs took part in the tough Country range Student Team Competition at the Hotel and Catering show held at London’s Excel Centre, where they were titled runners up!👏🏽🎉️
This was the first time HRC has made it into the final cook-off (what is known as the hospitality and catering Olympics!)
8 teams from colleges across the country were tasked with producing 3 courses of food.
Our menu consisted of:
- Smoked Fish Canapes
- Guinea Fowl, Ratatouille, and Pecorino Jus
- Apple and Verbena tart
A huge well done to the boys Romon-Te Harvey, Lucas Woods and Shane Hutt for the runners up prize!
The exciting day concluded with Tiah Palmer-Marshall (Level 3 student) receiving a merit award for her creative Alice in Wonderland cupcakes, in the junior cupcake competition. Our Chef Tutor Lisa Braxton Jones received a silver award in the senior cupcake competition with her beautiful designs depicting flowers from different seasons in her garden! Well done Tiah and Lisa!
Thank you to Country Range for having us and to the team at HRC who supported and coached our students! Well done to New City College for winning and Loughborough College for joint runners up with us!
Hertford Regional College (HRC) are delighted to announce the appointment of Nick Buckland OBE as the new Chair of the Board of Corporation, as of 1st August 2021. Nick will be taking over from Mike Carver, who is stepping down after more than 10 years in the role.
Nick brings a wealth of experience to the position, alongside a keen interest in the further education sector, from both a personal and a business perspective. As an experienced Chair, Trustee and Director of a wide range of organisations in the public, private and voluntary sectors, he offers considerable expertise in governance, innovation and technology across a variety of industrial and commercial sectors.
Originally educated as a Mathematician, Nick worked in the IT industry for a number of years, in commercial solutions, high performance computing, virtual reality and the internet. Making a career change in the mid 1990’s, he developed a portfolio career working with many different organisations. He retains an interest in education, the arts, transport, agriculture and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).
A Fellow of a number of professional bodies and a Chartered Engineer, Manager and Information Technology Practitioner, Nick was appointed OBE in 2009 for services to Innovation and Technology. As a product of the further education sector himself, with fond memories of completing his A-Levels at College, he has maintained a passion for further education throughout his career.
In welcoming Nick, HRC would also like to thank departing Corporation Chair, Mike Carver for his hard work and commitment to HRC over many years.
Nick is keen to build on the success already achieved at HRC and is looking forward to following in the footsteps of those who have done great things for Hertford Regional College.
