GCSE mathematics is fundamental for employment and education prospects. A GCSE maths qualification has become an essential requirement by most employers seeking to recruit new staff. University entry also usually requires a grade 4 or above (Grade C on the old system). The awarding body who accredit our GCSE maths qualifications is OCR.
Timetable delivery runs for 2.5 to 3 hours per week and there are a choice of daytime and evening classes to suit everyone's needs. A high number of adults who complete the course achieve their qualification at the end of the year at grade 4 or higher.

What will I be doing?
The OCR specification includes five different categories:
- Number
- Algebra
- Ratio and Proportion
- Geometry and Measures
- Statistics and Probability
How will I be assessed?
Your qualification grade is decided by three final exams which are externally assessed by the awarding body:
- Paper 1 - calculator test - end of May
- Paper 2 - non-calculator test - beginning of June
- Paper 3 - calculator test - beginning/middle of June
You will also be taking a series of mock tests and exams throughout the year to help you track your progress and identify areas for development.
Entry requirements
On application you will be invited to take a maths assessment at the HRC Learning Centre. This will allow our Tutors to assess your current level and will indicate if you are suitable for the course or if an alternative maths programme may initially be required. What do I need to bring?
- Basic stationery such as a pen, pencil.
- A calculator.
- A geometry set.
A relevant workbook is provided to all students taking the GCSE Maths exam.
