Sport & Public Services
HRC is proud to be the first Further Education college in the world to become a YMCA Qualification Platinum Partner, the awarding body for HRC’s personal training, fitness, gym instructing and group exercise professional qualifications. As a Personal Training student you will have access to courses developing your theory-based practice which supports your journey into the fitness industry.
HRC's Sports courses are taught by experience tutors with industry experience who also continue to practice in fields such as sports coaching, fitness and sport massage.
Our Public Services tutors have an impressive array of medals and commendations from their time in the Army and Police force. Their experiences range from frontline policing to CID, rising through the ranks to Detective Constable and Sergeant in the Metropolitan Police and serving in the British Army. When studying one of our Public Services courses, you will aim to lead effective teams, study key legal information and gain a clear, professional understanding of what it takes to be a leading member of the Public Services. You will also meet guest speakers from local services and spend time within a working environment experiencing what it is like in the roles you aspire to hold.
Work Experience
Our Sports courses focus on the practical application of science and nutrition to give you the theoretical training you need to ensure you can stand out from the crowd. However, it's not all work and no play - students also get to try out the latest sports and leisure activities including kayaking, surfing and indoor skydiving.
As a Sports student, you will have access to a number of local facilities offering insight into employment within the sports and fitness sector. These experiences will help you decide on your future career progressions and develop an understanding of what it takes to be professional and successful.
If you're taking on a Public Services course, you will be inducted with Bootcamp - a residential trip at the start of the year which truly puts you through your paces. This is complemented with ongoing work experience throughout the year including stewarding and assisting the police at community events. More recently, the Public Services students worked with local police and fire services to enact real life scenarios of accidents and casualties.
