There are lots of perks to this course including the opportunity to work with local employers meeting guest speakers who are experts in their field and working with students in other departments to support projects and activities. Electrical Students can have the opportunity to gain the ECS card and can take advantage of external trips. The college a wide range of external courses for industry which can allow students to communicate and possibly seek a work placement or work experience. 30 hours minimum of work experience is an expectation of learners enrolling to this course along with some independent study.

How will I be assessed?

Throughout the induction period and during the remainder of the year you will be monitored and will be expected to show good regular attendance excellent behaviour conduct and overall progression in all areas of study, including further development in English and maths The assessments will be a combination of various practical tasks short answer written questions multi-choice questions producing circuit and wiring drawings and knowledge assignments.

Entry requirements

All our courses are designed to cover the full range of topics and tasks as laid down by the awarding body in response to industry requirements. All practical activities are carried out within our state of the art workshops with theory work being a mix of classroom and practical assignment activities. The course consists of assessment units which assess the competence of a candidate over a wide range of activities. There will be a high emphasis on Health and Safety and correct safe working practices and systems. The qualification covers a range of basic and underpinning knowledge involved in electrical installation.

What do I need to bring?

During practical workshops sessions Personal Protective footwear and overalls will be required at all times. The general classroom equipment that is required should include a pencil case with writing pens pencils coloured pencils and pens scientific calculator ruler set square protractor compass notepad with lined and plain paper together with an A4 folder.If you think you would benefit from financial support we have bursary options available for those who meet the criteria.
