This 10 week course introduces students to the skills required to progress onto making, customising or altering garments.
Each week will focus on a different skill to include:
Sewing machine basics
Seams
Hems
Zips
Pockets
Buttons & buttonholes
Darts, tucks & pleats
Overlocking
Working in our Fashion studio, with access to industrial and domestic machines, students will produce a selection of samples for each of the skills covered.

What can I do next?
Following completion of this course, our Dressmaking for Beginners short course is ideal for anyone wishing to learn how to make garments from commercial patterns, alternatively our Introduction to Pattern Cutting short course introduces students to the basics of drafting patterns from scratch.
Entry requirements
There are no formal entry requirements, this course is suitable for absolute beginners or those wanting to refresh their skills.
What do I need to bring?
Please bring:
- a basic sewing kit to include fabric scissors, tape measure, pins, hand sewing needles, thread snippers/embroidery scissors and a stitch/seam ripper.
- a note/sketch book and pen/pencils.
- an A4 Lever Arch Folder and plastic wallets to build a technical folder, with step-by-step instructions alongisde the samples.
You will be made aware of any other requirements as the course progresses.
Fee Information
£125 for the 10 week block.
